Library Fair

The 49th annual Lewisboro Library Fair will be held rain or shine, on Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Onatru Farm. The Fair highlight is the Book Sale, but it also features “Attic Treasures,” auctions, food, hayrides, music, and vintage cars.  Back by popular demand this year is the Antique & Collectible “Road Show.”  Noted appraisers Jay St. Mark, PhD and Tucker Frey will be at the Fair from 11 to 2, to provide verbal appraisals for $10 per item. All donations will directly benefit the library. The popular Book Pre-Sale, for Lewisboro residents only, will be held Thursday evening, September 24 from 5:30-9:00 p.m., also at Onatru Farm.

We are seeking volunteers to help out before and on Fair Day. If you are available to help collect donations on Saturday mornings beginning August 8th, move the books into place on September 19, or work at the Book Pre-Sale or Fair, please sign up at the library or  visit the newly created Library Fair website www.lewisborolibraryfair2009.wikispaces.com. There are many volunteer opportunities, so don’t be shy.  It’s a great way to help out the community and meet people, especially if you are new to the area!

Donations of books, toys and items for the Fair’s Attic Treasures Tag Sale will be accepted on the last four Saturdays in August – 8/8, 8/15, 8/22 & 8/29. Donations can be dropped off at Onatru Farm from 10 a.m. to Noon on these days only. Books must be in good condition (i.e. no mildew). No textbooks, condensed books, encyclopedias or magazines. For Attic Treasures we are seeking gently used furniture, toys, bicycles, artwork, kitchen and sports equipment. We cannot accept upholstered furniture, exercise machines, computers and accessories or stuffed animals.

Library Name Change

In 2008 the South Salem Library board of trustees and the New York State Board of Regents approved a name change for the library from “South Salem Library” to “Lewisboro Library.”

Have You Tried the Playaway?

Playaway is the newest format of audiobooks – a preloaded digital audio player.  It combines complete individual titles with an easy-to-use player - all in one small unit. Simply press play to start listening immediately – there is no need for a separate player.  You may use your own headphones, or purchase a set of earbuds from the library for $2. The loan period is three weeks.  The Playaway can be renewed once for an additional three weeks if no holds are placed on the title.  The overdue fee is 20˘ per day.

Wireless Internet Access

Wireless Internet access is now available at the Lewisboro Library.  We invite you to explore our high-speed Internet access using your own wireless-enabled laptop or pda. In order to connect, your computer must have a WiFi-compatible network card installed (802.11b or 802.11g).  We also recommend a charged battery, as electrical outlets are limited.
