Creating a Novel: The Bacchus Claim

Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 pm

Waccabuc resident and author Dorsey Salerno will discuss the research she undertook while writing her thriller, The Bacchus Claim, a novel that deals with a family’s quest to reclaim art work stolen by the Gestapo during World War II. A great program for both history buffs and potential authors. Registration is required.

 

Fiction Writing Workshop

Tuesday Evenings from 7-8:00 pm

October 5, 12, 19, 26, & November 2

One of our most popular programs for adults. Author Kim Kovach (A Few Bad Decisions) returns with creative ways to explore character development, point-of-view, dialogue, and setting to make your fiction writing come alive. Expand your writing skills with the use of challenging and creative in-class writing exercises and homework assignments. This class fills up quickly. Registration is required.

 

Caffeine & College

Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00 pm

This program is for parents at the middle or high school level, who want to understand the rudiments of prepping for college. It covers middle school acceleration recommendations, standardized tests (SAT, ACT, subject tests), and an introduction to the college planning process. The program will be led by Alan Sheptin, who has over 20 years of experience in the field of academic and test prep. Space is limited, so please call the library to register.

 

Local Author Book Fair

Saturday, December 4 from 11 am to 2 pm

Have a reader on your holiday gift list? Gift them with an autographed book. Come to the Lewisboro Library's second annual Local Author Book Fair. Area writers will set up displays in the library between 11 am and 2 pm, to sell and autograph copies of their books. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated back to the library. Bring your holiday gift list and buy books for all ages, personally signed by the authors. Participating authors include Lynne Barasch – First Come the Zebra; Andrea Candee – Gentle Healing for Baby and Child; Jerome Kerner – Be it Ever So Humble; Maureen Koehl - Lewisboro Ghosts: strange tales and scary sightings; Kim Kovach - The Adventures of Kitchawan Kenny; Peter Rose – Summer Pleasures, Winter Pleasures: a Hudson Valley Cookbook; Jennifer Rosvally and Shura Saul – Mother/Daughter Duets; Shura Saul and Rita Schaffer - Beautiful Italy - La Bella Italia.

BOOK GROUP:

The Lewisboro Library Book Group usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. There will be no meeting in August. The book selection for September 29 (fourth Wednesday) is The Naked and the Dead, by Norman Mailer. The book selection for the October 20 meeting is The Power and the Glory, by Graham Greene. Books are available through the Westchester Library System. New members are always welcome in this co-ed book group.  For more information, contact Myrna or Steve Shomstein at 533-2550. 

 ¯ FOLK MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY ¯

 The Folk Music Concert Series has been a popular Library event since 1983. The concerts run from October through December, and February through May, usually on the first Saturday of each month. Concerts begin at 8 pm, doors open at 7:30 pm. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and children under 10.
