Events ¯ FOLK MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY
¯ The Folk Music Concert Series has been a popular Library event since 1983. The concerts run from October through December, and February through May, usually on the first Saturday of each month. Concerts begin at 8 pm, doors open at 7:30 pm. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and children under 10. February 6: David Massengill – David Massengill is a gifted guitarist, Dulcimer player, storyteller and all round musician. Noted for his mountain ballad-style story songs, David has written songs recorded by the Roches, Joan Baez, Shawn Colvin and more. March 20: Clancy Family Tradition – Our traditional Irish night with the Clancy Family of Katonah. Come for an evening of tall tales and ferocious fiddle playing. April 10: Joe Crookston – A talented guitarist and banjo player, Joe was chosen as a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Most-Wanted Artist, was a finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, and in 2007 received a year-long songwriting grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. May 1: The Walkabout Clearwater Chorus – A true "people's chorus" made up of folks who love to sing and work hard at making good music. Founded in 1984 with the help of folk music mainstay Pete Seeger, the repertoire ranges from boisterous sing-alongs to carefully crafted harmonious "music with a message." Annual Meeting: Featured Speaker Dan DeLuca Sunday, January 31 at 3:00 pm The Lewisboro Library’s annual meeting is traditionally held on a Sunday. While the library is now closed for business that day, we are opening up for the meeting. Our guest speaker will be Dan DeLuca. Mr. DeLuca is the author of The Old Leather Man: Historical Accounts of a Connecticut and New York Legend. Mr. DeLuca will shed light on fact versus fiction about the famous hermit who wandered through New York and Connecticut in the late 1800s. True fact: The Leather Man was always clothed in leather, he crafted his clothes from the top of boots that people would give him. Mr. DeLuca’s presentation will be preceded by a short business meeting.
Who Pays for Long Term Health Care? Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 pm This informative seminar is presented by Michele Cassidy of Bress Law Firm, who specializes in assisting the elderly and their families in accessing government paid long term care benefits. Learn how to become eligible for in-home assistance. Registration is required.
Lewisboro Volunteer Fair Saturday, February 27 from 1:00-3:00 pm Want to meet new people while helping out in your community? Please take the time to stop by our Lewisboro Volunteer Fair. Local agencies will have tables set up at the library with information on their services and volunteer needs. Making the Best College Choice: What Parents Need to Know Tuesday, March 2 at 7:00 pm A must-see program for parents of college-bound high school juniors. Dr. Gay Stebbins Pepper, a college counselor, has designed this workshop specifically for parents. She will guide you through the process of determining which colleges best fit your child’s talents and needs. Please call the library to register.
Optimizing your Assets and Minimizing your Risk Tuesday, March 9 at 11:00 am OR Tuesday, March 16 at 7:00 pm A free seminar led by Certified Financial Planner Jim Santangelo. You work hard for your money and deserve to know some of the tools and resources that may assist you in reaching your goals. This important financial program will be offered on two separate dates and times, to offer people flexibility in attending. The same material will be covered at both. Registration is required.
Flappers: Women of the 1920's Sunday, March 14 at 3:00 pm It was a period of American history that drove significant changes in how society perceived and accepted women. Writer/performer Trish Chambers returns with an engaging presentation on the emergence of American women from the demure Gibson Girl to the flashing Flapper. She’ll explore the impacts of WWI on society, and the influences of literature, movies and art on how women were perceived. Please call the library to register for this unique program. Note: the library is only open for this program that day.
Fiction Writing Workshop Tuesday Evenings from 7-8 pm April 13, 20, 27 and May 4 & 11 Our popular Fiction Writing Workshop, led by South Salem author Kim Kovach (A Few Bad Decisions, The Adventures of Kitchawan Kenny). Explore character, setting, point-of-view, and dialogue via creative in-class writing exercises and homework assignments. Registration is required. This class fills up quickly.
Book Shelf Blitz Wednesday, April 21 at 8:30 am Once a year, a group of volunteers joins the staff and Library Trustees before the library opens for a shelf-cleaning party. It’s a great way for us to get our shelves in order, and for you to uncover some interesting treasures in our collection. If you have a few hours to spare that morning, please call the library at 763-3857. A light breakfast will be served.

The Lewisboro Library Book Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting will be February 17th, and the book selection is Mr. Sammler's Planet, by Saul Bellows. The book selection for March is Let the Great World Spin, by Colum McCann. The selection for April is Jude the Obscure, by Thomas Hardy. Books are available through the Westchester Library System.
